UPVC & Composite Door Repair
Multipoint mechanisms, handles, hinges and alignment. Most UPVC doors that have stopped locking can be repaired rather than replaced, at a fraction of the cost of a new door.
No call-out charge. Send a photo of the lock and we’ll quote before we set off.

See every postcode we coverQuestions we get asked
- My door only locks if I lift the handle really hard. What is wrong?
- That is the classic early warning of a multipoint mechanism starting to fail, and it is worth acting on before it strands you. Usually the door has dropped slightly on its hinges, so the hooks no longer line up with the keeps in the frame, and the mechanism is being forced every time you lock it. Caught early it is often an adjustment. Left alone the mechanism eventually snaps, normally at the least convenient moment.
- Do I need a whole new door?
- Usually not. Most UPVC and composite doors that have stopped locking need the mechanism inside the door edge replaced, not the door. A replacement mechanism and fitting is a fraction of the cost of a new door, and the door, glass and frame all stay as they are. We will tell you honestly if a door really is beyond repair.
- How long does replacing the mechanism take?
- Typically one to two hours once we have the right part. Multipoint mechanisms are not universal — the length, the backset and the arrangement of hooks, rollers and deadbolts all vary by manufacturer, so sending a photo of the door edge and any markings on the faceplate helps us arrive with the correct part.
- Why has my door dropped?
- Composite and UPVC doors are heavy, and over years the hinges gradually give under that weight. Heat makes it worse, which is why these faults so often appear in summer. Realigning the hinges is a quick job and it takes the strain off the locking mechanism, which is the expensive part.
